What's driving like in Aruba?

Updated May 21, 2026

The answer

Drive on the right (same as the U.S.). A standard U.S., Canadian, or EU/UK license is valid for up to three months. South-coast roads through Oranjestad, Palm Beach, and Eagle Beach are well-paved and easy. Roundabouts are everywhere — yield to traffic already in the circle. Off-road routes into Arikok National Park or out to Conchi Natural Pool require a 4×4; most standard rental insurance excludes Arikok damage, so read your contract carefully. Drink driving is taken seriously. Gas stations don't always take all cards — keep some florins or USD on hand.

Driving is easy on the main roads but rougher inland — a sedan won't make it to Conchi.

Read your insurance — Arikok off-roading is usually not covered and breaking down out there is a problem.

Roundabouts are everywhere; if you're not comfortable with them, watch a YouTube video before you fly.
