The answer
Depends on what you want to do. If you're staying on Palm Beach or Eagle Beach and mostly hanging at the resort and the beach, skip it — buses, taxis, and the Aruba Local Taxi app cover you. If you want to drive yourself to Arikok National Park, Conchi Natural Pool, Baby Beach, the California Lighthouse, or restaurants in Savaneta or Noord on your own schedule, rent. Many people split the difference and rent a car for 2–3 days mid-trip rather than the whole week. Insurance is almost always required at the counter; ask whether off-road damage in Arikok is covered (often it's not).
