How intense is the sun in Aruba, and what about water?
Updated May 21, 2026
The answer
Aruba is at 12° N latitude — the sun is significantly stronger than most northern-hemisphere visitors are used to. Reef-safe sunscreen is required by law (no oxybenzone or octinoxate). The trade winds make you feel cooler than you actually are; sunburns sneak up fast. Hats, rashguards, and reapplying every 90 minutes are normal. Drink more water than you think you need. Tap water on Aruba is desalinated from seawater and safe to drink everywhere — restaurants, hotels, public taps.
